As seen in the movies, this is New Zealand’s famous mountain mist. It was at this overlook that dad and Mark assisted some German girls with their car battery using only the cord cut from a household power strip as a jumper cable between our vehicles!
Fox Glacier carved this valley and we hiked through to get a closer look. The color of the ice was a very cold blue, and the temperature definitely dropped as we came up to the glacier.
Here are some photos of the Pancake Rocks near Punakaiki. There are supposed to be blowholes on this site at high tide as well, but unfortunately we didn’t time our visit well enough. The formations were still amazing!
This is the weka — it’s an adorable wild New Zealand bird, it reminds me of a chicken. This country has so many flightless birds!
When the parents were here, we had an awesome kayaking trip around Abel Tasman National Park. We stopped for lunch in a cove and watched the tide go out, then got back to a sunny beach to wait for our pick-up and admired the million-armed sea stars everywhere — I had to ask whether they were dangerous or not! :)
